Time Attack
From WikiUeda
After beating the game on normal the first time through the player unlocks both Hard Mode and Time Attack Mode. To access the Time Attack the player need only load the game, starting in the Shrine of Worship, and approach the idol of the corresponding colossus. There is a mandatory time limit stated to "beat" each Time Attack and then the player's personal best. Playing in this mode allows you to fight any colossus you wish without having to travel to their location in the Forbidden Lands. Additionally, this mode allows you unlock special items for Wander to use.
[edit] Time Attack Items
What follows is a list of the Time Attack items, how you get them, what they do, and some advice on how to use them.
Retrieving and Equipping Items
After beating two colossi in Time Attack (see above) the items you have earned will appear in the pool in the back of the temple. Stand over the glowing spot of water and press R1. After you have retrieved the item press start. You will see a new "Items" menu. From there you can equip whichever items you want (provided you picked them up). Then all you have to do is is switch to the item during normal play using the left and right directional buttons.
When You Can't Use the Items
You can not use any of the items while engaged in a Time Attack battle. You will not be able to use any items you got from Normal Time Attack when you're playing Hard Mode. That also means that you will not be able to use any items you got from Hard Time Attack when you're playing Normal Mode.
[edit] Normal Time Attack Items
Whistling Arrows
Received after defeating two colossi in time-attack. Whistling arrows attract the attention of colossi. When you shoot a Whistling Arrow, the colossus will turn to wherever the arrow ends lands.
Uses/How to: If you want to get at a colossus' back you can shoot a Whistling Arrow behind it and it should turn around giving you easy access. Select it by cycling through your weapons until you find it.
Cloak of Force
Received after defeating four colossi in Time Attack. The Cloak of Force increases the amount of damage you do with the sword.
Uses/How to: Kill colossi faster. Just equip it to reap the benefits.
Mask of Strength
Received after defeating six colossi in Time Attack. The Mask of Strength increases the amount of damage you do with the sword. Use in conjunction with the Cloak of Force to further increase damage.
Uses/How to: Kill colossi faster. Just equip it to reap the benefits.
Lizard Detection Stone
Received after defeating eight colossi in time-attack. The Lizard Detection Stone will make an icon of a lizard appear on the map in the general area of where a white-tailed lizard is. The icon only appears when you are relatively close to the lizard.
Uses/How to: Find white-tailed lizards with ease. While traveling check your map on occasion.
Fruit Tree Map
Received after defeating ten colossi in time-attack. The Fruit Tree Map will make an icon of a fruit on the map at the location of every fruit tree in the game. Close proximity to the tree is unnecessary to make the icons appear.
Uses/How to: Find fruit with ease. Just check your map to see where they are.
Mask of Power
Received after defeating twelve colossi in Time Attack. The Mask of Power is a more powerful version of the Mask of Strength. It increases the amount of damage you do with the sword. Use in conjunction with the Cloak of Force to further increase damage. This item can not be used in conjunction with the Mask of Strength.
Uses/How to: Kill colossi faster. Just equip it to reap the benefits.
Cloak of Deception
Received after defeating fourteen colossi in Time Attack. Wearing the Cloak of Deception renders the player invisible. A colossus will not see you or attack you while you are wearing it. This item can not be used in conjunction with the Cloak of Force.
Uses/How to: Travel about a colossus' arena with impunity. This is especially useful in the fight against the final colossus, allowing you to completely explore the arena. It also has some great benefits with screen and video capturing, allowing you to get a picture of a colossus or area without Wander in the shot. Just equip it to reap the benefits.
Flash Arrows
Received after defeating sixteen colossi in Time Attack. Flash Arrows are arrows that explode on impact. They do much more damage than regular arrows.
Uses/How to: Quickly and severely weaken a colossus before getting onto it. Flash Arrows make lizard hunting (or the killing of any animal for that matter) much easier. They can be used to reach previously unreachable areas by allowing you to blast yourself up slopes that you would normally just slide off of. They can also be used to trigger the "torch falling" scene in the fight with colossus #11. Select it by cycling through your weapons until you find it.
Once you beat Normal Time Attack you may choose the brown Agro.
[edit] Hard Time Attack Items
Harpoon of Thunder
Received after defeating two colossi in time-attack. The Harpoon of Thunder is used almost exactly normal arrows. The harpoons do more damage, though, and have the ability to interrupt a colossus' attack. They can also trigger a vital just like a sword can.
Uses/How to: Quickly and severely weaken a colossus before getting onto it. Trigger a vital without being on the colossus. Select it by cycling through your weapons until you find it.
Sword of the Sun
Received after defeating four colossi in Time Attack. The Sword of the Sun will shine (when you hold down O) even when standing in the shade.
Uses/How to: This item is apparently useless as by the time you get it you should know exactly where each colossus is and where all of their weakspots are. Select it by cycling through your weapons until you find it.
Fruit Tree Map
Received after defeating six colossi in Time Attack. The Fruit Tree Map will make an icon of a fruit on the map at the location of every fruit tree in the game. Close proximity to the tree is unnecessary to make the icons appear.
Uses/How to: Find fruit with ease. Just check your map to see where they are.
Shaman's Cloak
Received after defeating eight colossi in Time Attack. The Shaman's Cloak decreases the damage you receive from the attacks of the colossi.
Uses/How to: Survive longer against the colossi. Just equip it to reap the benefits.
Lizard Detection Stone
Received after defeating ten colossi in Time Attack. The Lizard Detection Stone will make an icon of a lizard appear on the map in the general area of where a white-tailed lizard is. The icon only appears when you are relatively close to the lizard.
Uses/How to: Find white-tailed lizards with ease. While traveling check your map on occasion.
Shaman's Mask
Received after defeating twelve colossi in Time Attack. The Shaman's Mask decreases the damage you receive from the attacks of the colossi. Use in conjunction with the Shaman's Cloak for a cumulative effect.
Uses/How to: Survive longer against the colossi. Just equip it to reap the benefits.
Cloth of Desperation
Received after defeating fourteen colossi in Time Attack. The Cloth of Desperation is basically a parachute. It eliminates damage when you fall. You also fall slowly and with a slight forward glide. However, you will still die when you fall from some spots. Those spots are those like the cliffs overlooking the ocean where you do not lose health, but simply die.
Uses/How to: Prevent damage when falling off of a colossus or cliff. The slight glide has been used once to reach a normally unreachable area, and may be used to reach others. But it should be stressed that it is a very slight glide. Hold R1 while in mid-air to use it. You can greatly extend the length of the glide if you use a turbo controller.
Queen's Sword
Received after defeating sixteen colossi in Time Attack. The Queen's Sword is a very powerful sword. One fully-charged stab is enough to take out one weakspot. The benefits are a bit diminished as the damage you do with the ancient sword is proportional to the stamina you have. It is a sword that was used in the game Ico.
Uses/How to: Quickly kill colossi. Select it by cycling through your weapons until you find it.
