Forbidden Lands

The Forbidden Lands are a vast and mostly empty expanse, located in the southernmost reaches of the world. It is the setting for Shadow of the Colossus.

The only way in or out of the lands (other than by sea) is a small cleft in a mountainous region, located in the extreme north center of the Forbidden Lands. Before the events of Shadow, this passage led to an enormous bridge, composed of several arches that collectively held the structure up. This bridge spanned halfway across the Forbidden Lands, ending in the central Shrine of Worship, the massive shrine in which Mono, Dormin, and the shadow creatures reside, as well as the idols of the sixteen colossi.

Though the lands are barren and lonely, there are a few interesting points of interest. Various save shrines are located around the lands, each bearing a white-tailed lizard, whose tails may be consumed for a stamina boost. These special lizards (in addition to their black-tailed counterparts, though they offer no benefit to Wander) can be found elsewhere as well. Fruit trees can be found across the Lands, though they mostly grow in the south. Other creatures such as hawks, doves, turtles, fish and more can also be seen in various places, and the player can interact with all of them to some degree.
