The Castle

The castle where Ico, and many others before him, were taken and imprisoned. One of the reflector rooms used to open the main gate can be seen atop the smaller island to the right.

In Ico, the unnamed castle is where Ico is taken and imprisoned. It serves as the main setting for the game.

The castle is a towering structure, as well as an architectural marvel; it is constructed on several spire-like islands (the largest and central of which is very hollow, and contains an expansive waterworks system). The castle faces an imposing cliffside hundreds of feet high - a fall into the ocean below means certain death.

Other features of the castle include two reflector rooms that open the main gate, a retractable bridge, and a prison housing dozens of mysterious caskets.

The fortress itself is ruled by the Queen, and its aging, worn structure resembles her own dilemma. The Queen commands a vast number of shadow creatures, who will attack Ico and Yorda at opportune moments.
