Phalanx

|
Phalanx is the thirteenth colossus, and the largest of them all. A snake-like creature with many sets of wings and other strange attributes, this colossus is notable in that it makes no attempt to harm Wander in any way; he will only take damage from clinging to the giant's fur as it burrows back into the ground, or from falling off of it as it flies.
This colossus is found in the middle of the desert, located at quadrant E6 on the map.

[edit] Path to the Colossus
Go southwest from the Shrine, and head through the Autumn Forest at E5 as if going to Barba. When you emerge, head south. There is plenty of sunlight out here, so let your sword point you in the right direction. You will be led to a small crumbling ruin in the middle of the desert; step on it either by yourself or on Agro to start the battle.
[edit] Weakspots
- Under a dorsal flap near its head.
- Same as above, in the middle of its body.
- Same as above, near its tail.
[edit] Quick walkthrough
[edit] Stage 1
Initially, Phalanx will fly around high above the ground, out of your reach. Follow it on Agro as necessary, and get out your bow. The object is to shoot out the three gigantic ball sacs that keep it floating. Since the colossus is a good deal away, you will have to shoot your arrows slightly "ahead" of the sacs, so the shots will connect. Practice makes perfect.
[edit] Stage 2
Once you've shot out all three, the colossus will float down to earth, and the music will change to let you know. Notice the four fins by its head have drooped down and are running through the sand. On Agro, you have to gallop alongside one of these four fins and jump onto one while Agro is at full speed. (Once again, practice makes perfect. Hold R1 during the jump, use the Control Stick to make small adjustments in midair, and with a little luck you'll hang on the fin.)
[edit] Stage 3
A few seconds after hanging onto one of the fins, the music will change again as the fins reach upwards again. Run off of the fin and jump to its body. The weakpoints, as stated above, are located under three "flaps" of skin located on different parts of its body - there's one up front, one in the middle and one near the back. You should be able to take out at least one weakpoint before the colossus burrows underground, but in Time Attack you'll need to be quicker. Jumping is a great way to get to the back of the giant quicker, but is also more risky.
Time Attack times (Normal, Hard): 12:00, 13:00
